Hiddink returning to S.Korea for friendly with North

SEOUL, Aug 9 (Reuters) - PSV Eindhoven coach Guus Hiddink, who led South Korea to the World Cup semi-finals, looks set to get a hero's welcome when he returns to Seoul next month for a friendly between the two rival Koreas.

It was not clear whether Hiddink would advise on strategy or just watch the game, Sam H. Ka, Director General of the Korea Football Association said on Friday.

Hiddink, a hero in South Korean for helping the team become the most successful Asian side ever in the World Cup, had agreed to continue as an adviser to the national team after returning to the Dutch first division side.

South Korea co-hosted the World Cup with Japan in June. The communist North confirmed last week plans for a friendly on September 9 and agreed to send a team to the Asian Games to be held in the South's second city of Pusan at the end of September. The sides last played in 1993 when the South won 3-0.

North and South Korea remain technically at war after the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce, not with a peace treaty.
