Argentina captured their third title in the past four editions of the FIFA World Youth Championship with a comfortable win over Ghana in Buenos Aires - and staked an unmistakable claim to the World Cup itself in five years' time.
Seldom if ever has a team winning the World Youth Championship looked so convincingly poised to go on to greater things as this side coached so impressively by Jose Pekerman, the man who has now created a hat-trick of championship-winning teams.

The irrepressible raw talent of Ghana is the only remaining obstacle in the path of Argentina’s youth team towards a record fourth FIFA World Youth Championship title.
Two more goals from the outstanding Javier Saviola were the spark that lit Argentina’s comfortable 5-0 win over Paraguay in Buenos Aires, taking his championship total to a record ten.

Argentina win FIFA Fair Play Award
Argentina not only won the new silver trophy as the 2001 World Youth Champions but were also awarded the FIFA Fair Play Prize for their conduct throughout the three-week tournament. 08.07.01

Saviola wins both adidas awards
Argentina's new young star, Javier Saviola, won both golden adidas trophies at the FIFA World Youth Championship, topping the vote for the best player and also clearly finishing as leading goalscorer. 08.07.01
