JOHANNESBURG, March 12 (Reuters) - South African coach Carlos Queiroz resigned on Tuesday after a row over his position with the team, the South African Football Association said.

A press conference in Johannesburg announced the departure of the Portuguese coach and the appointment of Jomo Sono to replace him for the World Cup finals.

Sono had last month been appointed as technical director of the team to work alongside Queiroz, but the two had clashed in recent days.
