LOME, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Togo secured their first African Nations Cup Group Five qualifying points when they beat Mauritania 1-0 on Sunday.
Striker Sheyi Adebayor, who plays for Metz in the French first division, scored the winner when he headed home from a corner in the 25th minute.
Togo, who lost 3-0 to Kenya in their opening match last month, missed an 84th minute penalty. Abdelkader Coubadja was awarded the penalty but then failed from the spot.
Kenya, with six points from two matches, head the group followed by Cape Verde Islands and Togo on three points. Mauritania are bottom with no points, having also gone down 2-0 to Cape Verde last month.
