Sweden goalkeeper Hedman ruled out of Hungary qualifier

STOCKHOLM, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Sweden goalkeeper Magnus Hedman will miss the Euro 2004 qualifier against Hungary on October 12 through injury, Swedish media reported on Thursday.

Sweden's first-choice keeper tore a calf muscle during a fitness test at his Scottish club Celtic on Wednesday.

"The physician told me I'll be out for four to six weeks," Hedman told Swedish daily Expressen. "The injury came at the worst possible time."

Hedman went through the fitness test after having fully recovered from an earlier calf muscle injury sustained before a league match two weeks ago against Hibernian.

"I can accept getting injured badly at an important game, you can sacrifice yourself for the team and get hit," he said. "But getting injured in a jump at a fitness test is banal and incomprehensible."

Swedish first division keepers Andreas Isaksson (Djurgarden) and Mattias Asper (Malmo FF) are the two most likely replacements against Hungary, with second-choice Magnus Kihlstedt of FC Copenhagen also out of action until November because of a thumb injury.
