KINSHASA, July 4 (Reuters) - Monaco striker Shabani Nonda has been recalled by the Democratic Republic of Congo for their World Cup qualifier at home to Tunisia on July 15. Nonda has not played for the national team since their 6-0 defeat by the Tunisians in Tunis in February.
The heavy defeat cost coach Adelard Mayanga his job and has seen the Congolese play with an almost exclusively locally-based side in their six matches since.
But Nonda is one of eight foreign-based players named on Wednesday in a preliminary squad of 35 for their remaining two qualifiers including the away game against the Ivory Coast in Abidjan on July 29.
DR Congo have no chance of qualifying but the results of their two remaining matches have an important bearing on the outcome of African qualifying group D. Tunisia lead the Ivorians by three points but have played one match more.
