ROME, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Italy forward Roberto Baggio left the clinic where he had his cruciate ligaments reconstructed to return home on Thursday.
The Brescia star, who injured his knee in the Italian Cup game against Parma last week, was smiling, according to the Italian news agency ANSA report.
There were fears that Baggio, 34, would quit football after his latest injury, which ended his dream of playing in a fourth successive World Cup.
He is expected to be out of action for at least six months if he decides to return to the game.
Meanwhile, Baggio's agent said in Thursday's Corriere Dello Sport that he is bearing up well after the initial shock of his injury.
"Roberto is calm and has shown us he is calm," said Vittorio Petrone. "He knows that he must work hard but he is ready to beat this new adversary. Robi is an example to all, that's for sure."
Baggio is eighth on the all-time list of Serie A forwards with 178 goals, equal with Giampiero Boniperti and Gabriel Batistuta.
