MADRID, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Real Betis centre back Juanito has been called up to the Spain squad for Saturday's Euro 2004 qualifier against Northern Ireland after Valencia defender Carlos Marchena was ruled out through illness.

The 26-year-old Betis defender won his first cap when he played in the 1-1 draw in a friendly international against Hungary in August and has been in impressive form for the Seville side who remain unbeaten in the league this season.

Marchena was forced to drop out of the squad after suffering from a bout of gastroenteritis.
