Rehhagel offered Greece national team job

ATHENS, Aug 1 (Reuters) - German Otto Rehhagel will decide by Sunday whether to accept an offer from Greece to coach their national team.

"A serious decision like that cannot be taken in one night... I will reply to the offer by Sunday," the 63-year-old told reporters on Wednesday.

The Greek football association has not officially announced the job offer to the former Werder Bremen and Kaiserslautern coach but a source at the FA confirmed there had been one.

After a string of defeats including a 2-0 home loss to England, Greece have lost all realistic hopes of qualifying for the 2002 World Cup finals and national coach Vassilis Daniil stepped down in June.

Greece are third in European group nine, 10 points adrift of leaders Germany and four behind England with two qualifiers remaining - away to Finland on September 5 and in England on October 6.
